Peterborough Museum Undergoes Redevelopment
2011 will be an historic year for Peterborough Museum as it
undergoes a 12-month redevelopment that has been funded by
Vivacity, Peterborough City Council and the Heritage
Lottery Fund.

Murray & Willis Ltd were recently appointed as main contractor
to undertake the refurbishment of one of the city's most popular
attractions - playing host to tens of thousands of visitors each year.

It is also housed in one of the city's most historic buildings,
which dates back to the Georgian era. In order to keep entertaining
its growing band of visitors with an even better visitor experience,
some essential restoration work is needed to both improve and
preserve the Priestgate premises. Plans for the redevelopment
include a cafe, a new-look gift shop and upgraded toilets. Some of the Museum's exhibition galleries will be redesigned and redisplayed with more objects on display, new hands-on displays and much more.

Murray & Willis are currently on site for up to four months completing the initial core refurbishment which includes striping out the public areas, galleries and toilets. When this element is complete we will get to work on the structural elements of the project including strengthening the existing timber floor allowing us then to install all new mechanical & electrical services including a new heating system along with and air conditioning whilst making general improvements in order that the building complies with current DDA regulations.

Everest Base Camp Trek
Hawthorn Crescent - League of Friends

Steve Sutton is walking to Everest Base Camp on 20th
November 2011 to raise funds for Hawthorns Resource Centre
in Burton upon Trent.

The centre caters for children with learning difficulties and they are
hoping to buy a property in the Peak District that can be converted
to use as a holiday home so that the children can have a break from
their day to day routine. Steve managed the recent refurbishment
works of the centre, on behalf of Murray & Willis, and he was
particularly touched by the service users of the facility.

Steve will be trekking for 18 days from Kathmandu to Everest Base
Camp and all funds raised will go directly to Hawthorns Resource Centre League of Friends which is a registered charity.

Steve has so far raised £1000 by auctioning off items that have very kindly been donated by local companies along with selling items at a local car boot sale. He is also asking local suppliers to sponsor him for this epic adventure.

Murray and Willis have already donated £200 from the proceeds of a raffle at their 21st Birthday celebrations.

If you would like to sponsor Steve please contact him on 01543 426811.

NHS Birmingham-Muscular Skeletal Pathology
Research Building
The NHS have a cancer research department within the University of
Birmingham building at Edgbaston. We were recently appointed as
main contractor to install a new ventilation system to existing fume
cupboards. The installation of the system was required mainly for
health and safety purposes to extract chemical fumes from
the cupboards.

The project required co-ordination and liaison with the University
and the NHS to achieve success.

Roof shutdowns were required for creating penetrations for the
ventilation stacks through the structural roof which had to be
strategically planned to minimize disruption to all of the building
occupants' operations.

The project was completed on time and within budget to the complete satisfaction of the client.

Loomis
We have recently completed a successful project for Loomis UK Ltd
at one of their distribution centers.

The project involved creating an internal counting house on the first
floor, reception area, rest room and secure lobbies on the ground
floor. A new lift has also been installed to transport goods to the
counting house via the reception area.

The project also involved the installation of new heating, ventilation,
electrical work and fire alarm system. We also had to co-ordinate
closely with the clients' security and data contractor.

During the contract period a complex changeover was achieved
requiring a complete power shutdown, our electrical contractor
planned extensively to achieve this in a minimal period of time which turned out to be successful to the complete satisfaction of the client.

The project duration was originally nine weeks. During the early stages of the project the client chose to install a new mezzanine floor to create five additional offices. This additional work extended the project by a further eight weeks.

Due to the sensitive nature of the clients business all operatives, design team and site visitors had to undergo a rigorous vetting procedure before any works could commence on site. This involved extensive work for our administration department liaising closely with the clients' security vetting staff.

The client was extremely pleased with the result of this project.
