Client:
HSBC Bank PLC
Project:
Major Refurbishment of Flagship Branch
Project Duration:
16 Weeks
This project was undertaken in a Grade II listed building over three floors and a basement and involved internal demolition of walls, including the removal of the existing internal lift and shaft.

Works included structural alterations and excavations to form a new lift shaft and the internal reconfiguration of structural walls to form new offices, meeting rooms, interview rooms and waiting areas.

During the excavation there was increasing ingress of water from an unknown source, investigations revealed that the River Chelt was directed under the city centre in the late 1800’s with no accurate details of its route. It transpired that we had excavated close to a narrow point in the old underground aqueduct where pressure built up during heavy rain. Significant co-ordintation between the Structural Engineer, Fabrications and Lift Engineers were required to overcome this issue and the completion of this phase. The reconfiguration of the building also included new Mechanical & Electrical services including a new incoming electrical main.
